Cyclones Down 3-0 Heading Into Game 4

Posted by Under Argo on 14. May 2009 11:39

The Cyclones lost game 3 against the South Carolina Stingrays after a late 2nd period and 3rd period ralley falling short with a final of 4-3.  They were down 4-0 until there were two minutes left in the 2nd period when the 'Clones came to life and tried to battle back.  They have never come back to win a game after being down by at least 4 goals.  Game 4 in the best of seven series is Friday night at US Bank Arena at 7:30.  It is $1 Donatos Pizza night on Friday so if you like hockey or if you just like cheap pizza, get down to US Bank Arena and chear on the Cyclones this Friday night, it could be your last chance to see them this year.  Hopefully that isn't the case though.  Besides, tickets are only $12, there isn't much you can do that is as entertaining for that price.

Cyclones down 2-0 in the Conference Finals

The Cyclones dropped the first two games on the road of the Conference Finals.  After running off 5 straight wins they're in the midst of a modest 2 game losing streak to the South Carolina Stingrays. Heading back to U.S. Bank Arena could be the change the Clones need to shake off the losses.  The series shifts to Cincinnati starting tomorrow night and will continue on Friday and Saturday.  If you're around and looking for something to do, go out and support our Clones!

Cyclones can advance with a win tonight

Wednesday evening the Cyclones put another W on the road against the Elmira Jackals.  The win gives them a 3-0 lead in the series as they look to close it out tonight.  Cincinnati's only playoff team is not disappointing the fans again this year.  Another win will place Chuck Weber's squad in the ECHL American Conference finals for the second straight year.

Cyclones enter game 3 tonight with a 2 - 0 series lead

The Cyclones travel to Elmira tonight to face off against the Jackals in game 3 of the American Conference Semi Finals.  The Cyclones have won 3 in a row including the first 2 of this series.  The Cyclones dominated game 1 of the series with a final score of 8 - 3 where 3 Clones (I. McKenzie, D. Sproat, J. Johnson) scored 2 goals each. Game 2 featured a comeback from the Cyclones who trailed by 2 goals heading into the 3rd period.  The Cyclones were able to pull even and send the game into overtime with just over 2 minutes to go in regulation.  In overtime, Jimmy Kilpatrick sent the fans how happy with a goal just 1:46 into the overtime period.

Let's go Cyclones!

Cyclones to face off against Jackals

Posted by Speed Racer on 22. April 2009 11:14

The Cyclones play host to the Elmira Jackals in the second round of the Kelly Cup playoffs.  The Jackals won the regular season series with a record of 3-3-1.  Overall, the series was incredibly close with 3 of the games being decided by only 1 goal.

Just because the Cyclones lost the regular series record doesn't mean they are at a disadvantage.  The Cyclones lost the regular season series against Wheeling and pulled off a win in an incredible game 7.  The Cyclones have more playoff experience and that is what you want this time of year.  Having a winning record in the regular season gets you home ice advantage, but is no guarantee of an easy matchup or a successful playoff run.

I don't think this series will be easy by any means, but I have faith the Cyclones can pull off a series win in 6 games.

This Friday and Saturday, head down to US Bank Arena and cheer on the only professional playoff team in Cinci.  You can get $1 hotdogs on Friday and $3 24oz beers on Saturday.  Lets get cyc'd!

Cyclones advance to North Division Finals after double OT win

Posted by CincyRedhawk on 21. April 2009 10:12

With their backs against the wall, the defending Kelly Cup Champions pulled out a big win to advance back to the North Division Finals for the second consecutive year.  The home town Cyclones struck first when Felix Petit was able to sneak the puck past Wheeling netminder Curtis Darling at the 9:45 mark of the first period Wheeling evened the score at 1 3:22 into the second period when the Nailers pushed the puck past Loic Lacasse aftter he appeared to have made the stop.  Regulation ended with the score tied at 1-1.

From that point on, the game became a duel of the netminders.  Spectacular save after save from each goalie.  The momentum in the first overtime period was on the side of the Nailers as they controlled puck possession and shots for the period.  Lacasse made several blocker saves, and near the end of the overtime period mad back to back diving stops to keep the puck out of the net.  At the end of the overtime period both teams survived being shorthanded to send the game to a second overtime.

In the second overtime it was all Cyclones.  The Clones outshot the Nailers 12-0 in the period.  Darling made 4 unbelievable saves during the period, at one point making a glove save lying flat on his back.  It was starting to look like it was going to be impossible to get a puck past him. At the 3:48 mark of the period Matt Syroczynski did what seemed impossible and sent the puck into the twine to complete the series.  The crowd of just under 3,000 fans errupted as their defending champion Cyclones pulled out the thrilling victory.

I don't know how much more overtime in an elimination game I can take.  After being at the game in Washington D.C. watching Miami go down last weekend on a fluke bounce to BU and the Cyclones going to double overtime my nerves are shot.  The thrill is well worth it!

The Cyclones play this weekend at home on both Friday and Saturday nights against the winner of the Elmira vs. Trenton game 7 tonight.  If you're in town and looking for something to do, go out and support Cincinnati's playoff team in their pursuit of another cup!

Cincy's only playoff team needs a win at home

Posted by Number 1 fan on 20. April 2009 16:25

The only championship and current playoff team (professional) in Cincinnati needs to get the job done tonight at home against the Wheeling Nailers.  Last seasons Kelly Cup champions have split the series 3 all after giving up the last three home games.  The Cyclones have all their wins on the road in this series.

In the last game the Nailers went up early on the Cyclones scoring 4 goals in the opening period.

If you have nothing to do tonight, roll on down to USBank arena and cheer on the best professional team in Cincinnati in recent history.

Also, if you bump into CincyRedhawk (one of our writers) make him buy you a beer.  He is still reeling from his Miami team giving up the game in the final minute for the college championship.
