It's been several years since there's been the sense of optimism coming out of Oxford that there is this year. After suffering though three lackluster seasons going 10 - 27, the Redhawks needed a change up top. Bringing in coach Haywood is hopefully the answer all Redhawk fans have been looking for. In the MAC, defense can only take you so far. In the last 4 seasons the team has transformed from an offensive powerhouse to not being able to produce any real offense. If the Redhawks can regain some of their offensive prowess they possessed back in the days of Ben and Josh Betts, they could again be a legitimate contender in the MAC East.
This Saturday is the long awaited show down with the UK Wildcats at Paul Brown Stadium, as well as Coach Haywood's debut. UK is a good football team in a tough conference. The first game of the year is always tough to call in college football. With the amount of turnover teams go through, you never really know what your team is capable of. The last few years it didn't seem like the Redhawks had a lot of fight in them. I'm looking forward to see how they come out and if the intensity of old is back.
For those of you going to the game, remember to "Make it Red" and help our Redhawks bring home a victory!
